2010 FIFA World Cup Teams: France

According to FIFA France is currently ranked as the 7th best team in the world. France will be playing in their 13th FIFA World Cup tournament in South Africa in 2010.

Lilian Thuram is the most capped player in French football history. He represented his country 142 times between 1994 and 2008. Thiery Henry is the top scoring footballer in French footballing history. He’s scored 51 goals in 117 matches for France. Henry is still an active footballer. He’s played for France since 1997. English football fans will probably know Thiery Henry from the time when he was signed to English football club Arsenal (between 1999 and 2007). He scored 174 goals for Arsenal in 254 matches. In 2007 Henry signed a contract with Barcelona in Spain after his stay at Arsenal.

France played its first football international against Belgium in 1904. The French national football team suffered its greatest loss at the hands of Denmark in London in 1908. France only managed to score 1 goal in answer to the Danish team’s 17. France beat Azerbaijan by 10 goals to 0 in 1995. This was the biggest win by the French national football team in history. France was one of the nations who played in the inaugural 1930 World Cup. Over the years France has only managed to win the FIFA World Cup once (in 1998 when they hosted the tournament). Besides this France has also won 2 FIFA Confederations Cup tournaments in history. They beat Japan in the 2001 FIFA Confederations cup final and Cameroon in the 2003 FIFA Confederations Cup final.

France will be one of the teams to watch in this year’s tournament in South Africa. The French should not be underestimated under any circumstances.

  • 11 June 2010 – France vs Uruguay – Cape Town Stadium – Kickoff at 20:30
  • 17 June 2010 – France vs Mexico – Peter Mokaba Stadium, Polokwane- Kickoff at 20:30
  • 22 June 2010 – France vs South Africa – Free State Stadium, Bloemfontein – Kickoff at 16:00.
