2010 FIFA World Cup Teams: Honduras

Honduras are currently ranked at number 35 on the FIFA Rankings. Honduras will be playing in their 2nd FIFA World Cup in history. The last time they competed in the FIFA World Cup was in 1982 when the tournament was hosted by Spain.

Reinaldo Rueda (from Colombia) is the current coach of the Honduras national football team. He took over coaching duties from José de la Paz Herrera in 2006. Amado Guevara is the current captain of team and is also the most capped player in Honduras footballing history. He’s played 132 times for his country since 1994. Carlos Pavón is the top scoring footballer in Honduras footballing history. He’s still an active player. He’s scored 57 goals for this country in 97 games since 1993.

Honduras played its first football international against Gautemala in 1921, but lost by 10 goals to 0. Ironically this was also the biggest defeat for Honduras in history. The biggest win for Honduras in football history was in 1946 when they beat Nicaragua by 13 goals to 0.

Honduras should not be underestimated in the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa. They were drawn into Group H for the tournament. They will face Spain, Switzerland and Chile in their 3 group matches.
