The 2011 ICC Cricket World Cup started on the 19th of February. This year’s tournament is being hosted by India, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh.
14 countries (split up into 2 Groups) started the tournament. Over the course of 42 group matches in +/- 6 weeks the amount of teams have been reduced to 8. Top top 4 teams in each group have advanced to the Quarter Final Stage of the tournament.
Teams from Australia, Pakistan, New Zealand, Sri Lanka, Zimbabwe, Canada and Kenya competed in Group A. And teams from India, South Africa, England, West Indies, Bangladesh, Ireland and Netherlands competed in Group B.

Pakistan were the most successful team in Group A. They only lost their group match against New Zealand and finished in first place. Sri Lanka, Australia and New Zealand are the other 3 countries that will advance to the next stage of the tournament. Zimbabwe, Canada and Kenya were knocked out.

South Africa were the most succesful team in Group B. They only lost their match against England and finished in first place in the group. India, England and the West Indies advance to the next stage of the competition. Bangladesh, The Netherlands and Ireland have been knocked out in the tournament.
The Quarter Final stage of the tournament kicks off tomorrow (the 23rd of March 2011). Only 4 teams will advance to the Semi Final stage of the tournament (which starts on the 29th of March 2011). Competition is heating up in the 2011 ICC Cricket World Cup and there is no doubt in anyone’s mind that this will be an awesome display of cricket.
The following matches will be played in the Quarter Final stage of the 2011 ICC Cricket World Cup:
- 23 March 2011 – Pakistan vs West Indies – Dhaka, Bangladesh
- 24 March 2011 – Australia vs India – Ahmedabad, India
- 25 March 2011 – New Zealand vs South Africa – Dhaka, Bangladesh
- 26 March 2011 – Sri Lanka vs England – Colombo, Sri Lanka
