Let’s face it folks, the days of mainly using your cell phone as a camera or a stopwatch are over. Since the introduction of the first Smartphone Apps and the Apple iPhone in 2007, this has all changed. Smartphones are now part of our daily lives, whether we like it or not.
Nowadays there are hundreds of Smartphone models with thousands of Smartphone Apps on various operating system that can do a multitude of things that would have been considered as science fiction in the 1950’s. This morning a friend on Facebook pointed this little bitty out to me by sharing this photo below.
Today I’m featuring 3 Awesome Smart Phone Apps. These 3 apps cover basic needs in the 21st Century: Communication, Information and Entertainment.
WhatsApp: WhatsApp has been around since 2009 and it’s the ultimate messaging service. It’s one of those Smartphone Apps that I (and millions of other people) simply can not live without. WhatsApp can best be described as cross-platform instant messaging application for mobile phones. According to August 2012 figures WhatsApp handles 10 billion messages a day globally.
It may cost a little bit of data, but you’re able to send audio, video and pictures with WhatsApp at lightning speed. You can also chat to multiple friends in groups. WhatsApp works on the Android, BlackBerry, iOS, Series 40, Symbian and Windows Phone Operating Systems. This basically means that you’ll be able to message anyone that has a smartphone via WhatsApp instead of sending an SMS (which will cost you more).
You don’t have to struggle to create a WhatsApp account either, once you’ve installed the app on your phone, it prompts you to create a user account using your phone number as the username. WhatsApp also synchronizes with your phone’s address book, so you don’t need to add users in a separate contact list.
Convinced that this is one of those useful Smartphone Apps? Visit http://www.whatsapp.com/download/ from your smartphone to download the app.
Flipboard: This Smartphone app has been around since 2010 and is available for the Android and Apple iOS operating systems and also works on Android and iOS tablet PCs. Flipboard can best be described as a social-network aggregation and magazine-format application.
Flipboard allows users to integrate all their social media profile feeds. Users can add their Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Instagram, Google Reader, Flickr and other feeds onto your Flipboard.
Flipboard is definitely one of my favorite smartphone apps. I can literally spend an hour flipping through all the interesting content from my social media feeds on one application. Check out the Flipboard website for more information.
Flipboard also has search capability and it’s a great way to discover pictures, articles and other online content about your favorite subjects. Check out the Flipboard Demo for the Apple iPhone below, to give you an idea
Angry Birds: You’ve probably heard about this application or at least one of your friends has shown this game to you on their smartphone. Angry Birds was first released for the iOS operating system for Apple iPhones in December 2009. Since then more than 12 million copies of Angry Birds have been purchased via the Apple iStore.
Angry Birds’ popularity has prompted Rovio Entertainment (the Finnish company responsible for the development of the app) to bring out Windows Phone, Symbian and Android versions of the game. You can even play Angry Birds on your PC and on some video game consoles nowadays. Sadly Angry Birds is not available for Blackberry phones, but it might be in the future.
Besides the original Angry Birds game, you can also play Angry Birds Seasons, Angry Birds Rio, Angry Birds Space, Angry Birds Magic and Angry Birds Star Wars. Angry Birds mania has swept the globe since the game first appeared. In some countries various Angry Birds merchandise has has gone on sale (like T-shirts, key rings and coffee mugs).
I’ve played Angry Birds for hours and I must say that I find the game very easy to learn and play and very enjoyable. It’s the perfect way to kill time on your smartphone or PC. Check out the Angry Birds Website for more information.
I hope that you’ve found this insight into 3 Awesome Smartphone Apps useful. If you have, feel free to share this post with your friends on Facebook and Twitter. Remember: Sharing is caring.
