Bloemfontein is a vibrant city with lots of interesting things to do. Being one of the biggest cities in South Africa the City of Roses is well-known for its chilled out atmosphere, its warm hospitality, its top class sporting events and its fine eateries. Not being a Bloemfontein native or a frequent visitor I asked my Facebook friends for suggestions for restaurants. Thanks to them I’ve come to the conclusion that there’s more to this quiet South African metropolis than pretty flowers and morning markets, so today I’m featuring 3 restaurants worth checking out in Bloemfontein.
Avanti: This restaurant is renowned for its Italian cuisine and is located at 53 2nd avenue. This Bloemfontein restaurant has a slick exterior and patrons are invited to relax, enjoy their delicious food and stay as long as they like. Avanti’s staff has no tricks up their sleave to make your seat available to the next person, they want you to feel at home. Their outside area is the perfect spot to enjoy cocktails whilst the inside of the restaurant is perfect for a romantic night out or for an awesome evening out with friends.
Avanti truly has some delicious Italian food on their menu. Sink your teeth into a traditional Italian bread-based pizza like the Pizza di Parma (with Parma ham, gorgonzola cheese, cherry tomatoes and fresh rocket) or a delicious Avanti Seafood Salad (grilled prawns, smoked salmon, grilled calamari tubes and deep-fried squid heads served with a Caprese salad) or tantalize your taste buds with some tasty Lamb Ravioli (pasta pockets filled with slow-roasted lamb served with a rich ragout sauce).
There are also plenty of original and traditional Italian meat and poultry dishes on the Avanti menu, so the choice is really up to you. Chances are very high that you’ll find something that you like eating. Coco C Restaurant & Chocolatier: This unique and stunning Bloemfontein restaurant is located at the Loch Logan Waterfront. Coco C offers Haute cuisine which has been transformed by the mystical powers of Cacao. Patrons are invited to enjoy a new tasting experience with every sweet or savoury dish and to take their buds on an adventure to explore new sensations and unexpected delights. Expect Parisian elegance and some French flair which is created by the luxurious interior and the ambience of Coco C. The restaurant features comfortable lounge areas, a dance floor, a baby grand piano, a food theatre for demonstrations and a private lounge area.
It sounds like Coco C might just be the classiest restaurant in Bloemfontein. The restaurant is open from 9 AM to 10 PM from Tuesdays to Saturdays and is only open for bookings of 20 people or more on Sundays and Mondays. The Coco C Cocktail club is open from 5 PM to late from Tuesdays to Saturdays as well. For more info, check out the official Coco C Restaurant & Chocolatier website. New York Restaurant: This Bloemfontein restaurant was established in 1989. New York restaurant brings friends and family together and treats their guests with fine dine and exquisite cuisine. Their classy and elegant décor sets a warm atmosphere and their chef has a passion for food: a recipe for turning any occasion into a special event that changes their visitors into regular customers. This sounds like a restaurant you should check out.
Start your dining experience with some tasty Avocado Rits (avocado topped with shrimp cocktail and served in pink sauce) or delicious Snails Au Roquefort (garlic snails topped with Roquefort cheese). Next tantalize your taste buds with a New York chicken salad, a pure beef burger, a mouth-watering Brooklyn Sole (grilled sole with crab meat, shrimp and mushrooms in a creamy based sauce), a delicious Swiss Fillet (flattened fillet that is crumbed and grilled and topped with cheese and grilled mushrooms) or Picatta Marsala (pork fillet that is pan fried with onions, mushrooms, fresh cream and marsala wine). New York Restaurant truly has a wide selection of really good food, so you won’t be disappointed. For more information visit the New York Restaurant website.
