On this week Friday (the 9th of August) South Africa will celebrate National Women’s Day 2013. Since 1994 South Africans have been observing this public holiday. It commemorates the women’s protest march on the 9th of August 1956 and celebrates the creation of an enabling environment for women and their improved participation in income-generating activities in the South African economy. This year’s National Women’s Day celebrations will be held at the Thulamahashe Stadium in Bushbuckridge (in Mpumalanga) and President Jacob Zuma will give a keynote address at this event.
