3 Western Cape events to look forward to in August 2013

Great news! The 2013 Winter is approaching its end! Finally you’ll be able break the cabin fever that has been holding you prisoner for the past few months. Western Cape residents can look forward to less wet and cold weather, more sunshine and these 3 awesome events coming up in August 2013.

Hermanus Food and Wine FairHermanus Food and Wine Fair: This event takes place at the Hemel & Aarde Village near Hermanus on the 9th and 10th of August (on the same weekend as Kalfiefees 2013). The Hermanus Food and Wine Fair has been established for more than 16 years and was recently nominated as one of the 10 best wine festivals in South Africa and will feature wines from many wine producers.

The fair offers more than 1600 labels of South African wines and daily presents at least six wines for tasting.  All wines can be purchased at cellar door prices, making it a perfect and unique opportunity for those who are looking to expand their wine collection. There will also be mouth watering gourmet foods that are guaranteed to tantalize your taste buds.

Tickets cost only R120 per person per day and are available via Computicket. This includes a glass and informative booklet on all of the wine producers at the fair. Please take note that you have to be over 18 to taste the wines and that the Hermanus Food and Wine fair also offers a dedicated activity center for children.

Visitors are reminded to enjoy the wines responsibly. For more information visit the Hermanus Wine Village Facebook page, Tweet your inquiries to @winevillage or call Paul or Cathy on 028 3163988.

Women’s Day Swim: This event takes place at Camps Bay beach in Cape Town on the 9th of August 2013 (Women’s Day). This event forms part of the Cadiz Swim series (various charity cold sea swim events that take place all around the Western Cape). Relay teams comprising four swimmers can enter. Take note that at least one of the team members should be female.

CRobertson Slow Festival: This year’s  event will be taking place from the 9th to the 11th of August in the Robertson Wine Valley. Visitors to the Robertson Slow are invited to indulge themselves in the laid-back comfort of the valley at a snail’s pace.

This year 26 Wineries and guest houses from Ashton, Bonnievale, McGregor and Robertson will welcome visitors  into their homes to their dining tables and onto their farms for a food & wine experience that they will never forget.

Enjoy some fine cuisine that’s native to the Robertson Wine Valley (like Karoo lamb and “Waterblommetjie bredie”), learn to make pasta or gnocchi, taste wine, learn to play poker, go horseback riding, enjoy a boat cruise or go for a Fynbos or Renosterveld walk – the choice is completely up to you.

Just make sure that you attend the 6th annual Regional Food Market on the Sunday: local foodies and cooks will bring the finest from their kitchens and there will also be live music – it promises to be one of the highlights of the weekend at the Robertson Slow Festival. For more info visit the Robertson Slow Festival website or check out the Robertson Wine Valley page on Facebook.
