5 Upcoming Events in June 2012

It’s hard to believe that it’s nearly the middle of 2012.  Winter is around the corner in South Africa, but that doesn’t mean that there’s nothing to do this coming month. There are plenty of events taking place in most of the major centres in the country this coming winter.

Top Gear Festival

Top Gear Festival, Durban: This event takes place at the Moses Mabida Stadium on the 16th and 17th of June. Top Gear fans will be happy to hear that the festival will be hosted by the full Top Gear Team (Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May). Rumour has it that The Stig will also be making an appearance. The Home Expo

The Home Expo: Centre Court at Emperors Palace in Gauteng will be hosting this event from the 8th to the 10th of June 2012. This show will have everything a home owner needs under one roof. There will be loads of free giveaways, entertainment and free goodie bags for the first 2000 visitors to the expo. The Home Expo offers some of the latest and greatest Home Trends. There will be 120 stands inside the Emperors Palace Arena (in-between the food court and Nu Metro) and this show promises to showcase everything from kitchens to bathrooms and pools. Cape Town Book Fair

Cape Town Book Fair: Taking place at the Cape Town International Convention Centre from the 15th to the 17th of June 2012, The Cape Town Book Fair promises to bring you books galore and special guests that will delight any book fundi. This event will be an extravaganza to literary entertainment for both book lovers and the book world. The Cape Town Book Fair is the main event in South Africa for the promotion of books. The Fair was Created in 2005 and takes place annually under the authority of the Publishers Association of South Africa (and in co-operation with the Frankfurter Buchmesse – the largest book fair in the world). Top Car Gauteng Motor Show

Top Car Gauteng Motor Show: This event takes place at Zwartkops Raceway in Centurion on the 2nd & 3rd of June 2012. This is more than just a motor show. It’s an action packed motoring experience. The Top Car Gauteng Motor Show offers an entertainment line-up unlike any other motoring event in South Africa. Visitors will be able to experience and see some drifting, aerobatic displays, bike stunts, advance driving experiences, track experiences, beauty pageants, go-kart rides, simulators & helicopter rides at the show. Napier Patat Festival

Napier Patat Festival 2012: This annual festival is held in Napier in the Western Cape. This year it will take place from the 15th to the 17th of June 2012. The festival has one of the most beautiful but also challenging half marathons and a scenic mountain bike race. There will be close to 100 stalls scattered around the peripheral of the last lap for the runners and cyclists. Local wine and beer can be sampled while having a bird’s eye view of the activities. All the restaurants in this tiny but quaint village will be open for breakfast, lunch and dinner during the weekend. There will also be the very popular open gardens, an art ramble to showcase Napier’s local talent, a splendid display of vintage cars, tractors and trucks and a quaint parade through town.
