A cool Google Doodle

A Google Doodle is a fun, spontaneous and totally awesome change to the Google logo to celebrate a special occasion such as an anniversary, celebrated holidays and the lives of famous scientists, artists and pioneers.

Getting a little nostalgic, we wanted to look back at all the Google Doodles that made us smile.

The 2007 Rugby World Cup

Kicking off the 2007 Rugby World Cup on the 7th of September, 2007, Google gave us a very proudly South African Google Doodle and we all loved it!

I don’t like cricket, I love it! Marking the 2015 Cricket World Cup Semi-finals in which South Africa took on New Zealand, this beautiful doodle depicts the movements of a bowler with both the New Zealand and South African flag carefully bringing colour to the Google logo.

Google Easter Eggs

There are literally tons of fun Easter Eggs on Google and, because we don’t have the space on this Blog to cover them all, we have created a list of some of the coolest Easter Eggs.

Zerg Rush

Whether you are a StarCraft fan or not, this is one of the coolest Google games. Type ‘zerg rush’ into your Google search and start a game to keep the Zergs from devouring your search results. When you eventually lose, Google at least have the courtesy to GG.

Do a barrel roll

You might know this one, but it’s still super fun. Type ‘do a barrel roll’ into your Google search bar and watch as your search results literally do a barrel roll.

A simple Easter Egg, type ‘askew’ into your Google search and see what happens to your search results…

The ultimate answer

This is also one of the older Google Easter Eggs, but it is one of my favourites and definitely worth mentioning. Type ‘answer to life the universe and everything’ into your Google search. If you love the Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy, you will love the answer.

A simple Google Easter Egg, it’s actually quite genius. Typing ‘anagram’ into your Google search bar, you will be served with search results that actually serves you an anagram.

If you want to use Google in Leet (1337), simply type https://www.google.com/webhp?hl=xx-hacker into your browser and hit enter.

Pig Latin

Another awesome Easter Egg from Google allows you to change your language into Pig Latin. Simply type https://www.google.com/webhp?hl=xx-piglatin into your browser and voila!

Okay, so another oldie and not really an Easter Egg, this is probably one of the best functions Google has ever come up with. If you are always asked stupid questions that a simple Google search can answer, this is what to do. Go to http://lmgtfy.com/ and, in the provided search bar, type your question.

After selecting ‘Google Search’, you will be provided with a link. Copy that and send it on. Once the receiver opens the link, he or she will be taken to LMGTFY where the question is then typed into the search bar by Google, along with descriptive steps, and search results are given, effectively teaching the receiver to use Google.

Google Image Search

If you are looking to kill some time in the office, this is one of the Google games you simply have to try out. Totally addictive, you can keep yourself busy with an Atari game by going to Google Images and doing a search on ‘atari breakout’.

YouTube Easter Eggs

YouTube is full of fun and exciting Easter eggs that you probably didn’t know about. Go to YouTube and try some of them out for yourself.

Do the Harlem shake

The entire internet was on fire with the Harlem Shake and YouTube simply couldn’t let a golden opportunity like this pass. Okay, so go to your YouTube home page and type in ‘do the harlem shake’.

Aside from the hundreds of search results that pop up, an audio file will start playing in the background and your YouTube logo in the top left-hand corner will start to move from side to side. If you leave it for a couple of seconds longer, your search results will also do the Harlem Shake.

Use the force Luke

Even if you are not a Star Wars fan, this one of the YouTube Easter Eggs you will love. Type ‘use the force luke’ into your YouTube search bar. Once your search is complete, you will be able to move the text and images on your YouTube screen around with the simple swipe of your mouse.

Beam me up Scotty

Before you go into a debate about Star Wars vs. Star Trek, YouTube most definitely didn’t forget about all you fabulous Trekkies out there. Type ‘beam me up scotty’ in your YouTube search bar and watch as your results are beamed onto the screen – pretty cool, right?

Give YouTube a new look

Whether you are streaming YouTube from your television or just looking for an easier way to navigate your favourite online site (apart from Junk Mail of course), we have the answer. Simply type in www.youtube.com/leanback into your browser and enjoy a mouse-less YouTube browse.

If you are looking for some colourful search results, these are one of the YouTube Easter Eggs specially created for you. Type ‘doge meme’ into your YouTube search and feast your eyes on an extraordinarily eye-hurting search result.

Another great personal touch you can add to your YouTube videos is a transparent control bar. It’s super easy and very cool. Simply visit www.youtube.com/testtube and get it for yourself. YouTube is constantly playing around with new ideas and this is where you can get all the cool goodies.

Note: If you don’t like the new look interface, simply go back to www.youtube.com/testtube and click on ‘restore original player’.

Honourable Mentions

Though not Google Easter Eggs, we wanted to share these stunning finds with you as well.

Facebook Pirate

Did you know that you can change your Facebook language to Pirate? All you need to do is go to your Facebook settings and change your language to English (Pirate). ‘Home’ will now become ‘Home Port’, ‘Find Friends’ become ‘Scour for Mateys’ and ‘Translate’ becomes ‘Show In Yer Own Tongue’. There are loads of other fun changes, so check them out for yourself!

I recently changed my language on Facebook to Pirate and I have to admit that it really makes this social platform so much more amusing.

Black Acre Brewery

You simply have to visit the Black Acre Brewery Company’s website – http://blackacrebrewing.com/home/. To take part in the fun, hit ‘I Am Under 21’ and sit back and enjoy…
