Whether you supported Germany or Argentina, you can’t deny it… Mario Götze was the man of the hour last night, scoring an absolutely beautiful and historic goal on the 113th minute at the Finals of the FIFA World Cup 2014 in Brazil.
Only 22, Götze led his team to victory, and put the “nail” in the coffin for the Argentinian national team and dashed any hopes they had had of winning the coveted Cup. He came in as a substitute player during the match, and scored the goal that won the Germans the title of World Champions for the fourth time.
Götze, from Memmingen, Germany, and attacking midfielder for Bayern Munich is often described as “one of the best talents Germany has ever had.”
What drove him to score that magnificent goal? Pure determination… It is said that coach, Joachim Löw, told Götze to prove to Lionel Messi, Argentinian Captain and second highest goal scorer of the Latino team, that he is a “better player than him”. And well, let’s just say, Götze scored, and Messi didn’t…
