Are you a fan of old school action films? Escape Plan may just be the movie you’ve been waiting for. This upcoming film tells the story of Ray Breslin (an authority on structural-security). He analyzes high security prisons and learns a vast array of survival skills so he can design escape-proof prisons for a living. He finds himself jailed in a prison that he designed and has to use his skills to escape and find out who framed him.
Escape Plan features appearances by Sylvester Stallone (Ray Breslin), Arnold Schwarzenegger (Swan Rottmayer), Jim Caviezel (Warden Hobbs), 50 Cent (Hush), Vinnie Jones (Drake), Vincent D’Onofrio (Lester Clark), Amy Ryan (Abigail Ross) and others. The film is directed by Mikael Håfström (a Swedish filmmaker who also directed 2011’s The Rite, 2007’s 1408 and 2005’s Derailed) and written by Miles Chapman and Jason Keller.
Arnold Schwarzenegger has had a cameo role in The Expendables (which featured Sylvester Stallone), but Escape Plan is the first movie where they are working together. They played around with the idea in the 1980’s, but their schedules always clashed. The fact that Schwarzenegger isn’t the governor of California is probably what finally made this awesome action star collaboration possible. Escape Plan is also the second film that features Jim Caviezel (who also appears in the Person of Interest series on television) as a villain.
The film’s budget is estimated to be around $70 million and it’s scheduled for release in the United States on the 18th of October 2013. No South African release date has been confirmed by Nu Metro or Ster-Kinekor, but keep your eyes peeled and ears open for updates about this film from them both. Judging by the trailer for Escape Plan below, it’s going to be an action packed ride, but don’t take my word for it, judge for yourself.
