The first day of the Commonwealth Games has passed and Team SA delivered 2 Bronze medals on the day!
The first medal was won by Richard Murray when he finished 3rd in the men’s triathlon. Murray was quoted as saying he was a bit concerned before the race because ‘the water heated up and it meant no wet-suits. That can sometimes change the dynamics, but it was wonderful out there.’
Siyabulela Mabulu won the second bronze for Team SA in judo on Thursday evening, beating India’s Manjeet Nandal in the 66kg division.
According to Gideon Sam, SA Sports Commission and Olympic Committee President, the medal in Judo was a surprise as there is fierce competition from the Northern countries in this sport.
With Chad le Clos and Roland Schoeman swimming today, Team SA might tally a bit higher on the medals table this afternoon.
