Competition heats up in the 2011 Super 15 tournament

This year’s Super Rugby tournament is in the 18th week of competition. The 2011 Super 15 has turned out to be one of the most interesting tournaments to date. It’s also the longest Super rugby tournament in history.

There have been plenty of surprises in this year’s tournament and its turning out to be one of the most competitive tournaments in Super Rugby History.

Unlike the 2010 tournament, this year’s competition features 3 different conferences, 1 for each country which has teams participating in the Super 15 tournament.

  • In the South African Conference, the Stormers are currently on top of the log in this conference. They won 11 of the 15 matches they’ve played so far in the tournament. The Bulls are in the 2nd place of this conference. They’ve won 10 of the 15 matches they’ve played so far. The Sharks are in 3rd place. They’ve won 9 out of their 15 matches and played to a draw in 1 match (against the Cheetahs).
  • In the Australian Conference, the Reds are currently on the top of the log and are the most successful Super 15 team of 2011. They’ve won 12 of the 15 matches that they’ve played in this year’s tournament. The Waratahs are 2nd and the Western Force are 3rd.
  • In the New Zealand Conference, the Crusaders are on the top of the log. They’ve won 10, drawn 1 and lost 4 of their matches in the 2011 Super 15 tournament. The Blues and Highlanders are in 2nd and 3rd place on the log respectively.
This coming weekend’s matches will be the last of the matches in the group stage of the 2011 tournament. The Sharks and the Bulls take eachother on at Loftus Versfeld in Pretoria on Saturday. The match has been sold out. The team who wins the match will stand a chance to make it into the Semi final / Final stage of the 2011 Super 15.
