Events in Gauteng – August 2010

National Marimba Festival: This event takes place at St Dominic’s School in Boksburg from the 7th to the 9th of August 2010. It’s the 5th annual edition of the National Marimba festival. This year’s event will welcome participants from Gauteng, Cape Town, Grahamstown, East London, Port Elizabeth, KwaZulu-Natal, Mpumalanga, Swaziland and the North West Province. More than 45 bands will perform in the event. The marimba beat is fast becoming synonymous with Africa as the instrument that best captures the sound of the continent. Its infused with family values, nurturing and the spirit of ubuntu. The National Marimba festival is organized by The Marimba Education Foundation in collaboration with St Dominic’s school. The Marimba Education Foundation has opened 12 marimba schools so far. 8 of them were sponsored by The National Lotto Distribution Trust Fund and 4 were sponsored by The National Heritage Council. Decorex Johannesburg 2010: This event is held at Gallagher Estate in Midrand from the 5th to the 9th of August 2010. Decorex is the largest décor & design show in Southern Africa. This event brings you the latest on the local and international front and a fresh perspective on spaces in which you live, work and play in. This will be 17th annual edition of the event. Decorex celebrates today’s design icons with cutting edge kitchens and bathrooms, green talks and trends, DIY tips and tricks and more on the home front. The 5th and 6th August will be trade focused days. Entrance costs R65 for adults, R55 for scholars and pensioners and R5 for children under 12. For more information visit
