Johnson Crane Marathon and Half Marathon: This event takes place in Benoni on the East Rand on Sunday the 30th of January 2011. The Johnson Crane Marathon features a circular route. The half marathon is comprised of one lap of the route and the marathon is comprised of 2 laps of the same route. The route takes the runner from Benoni’s smallholdings through Rynfield and Northmead before the easy and flat sections at High Road. The first 11 kilometres are fairly flat before a slight downhill stretch to the 15km mark and the half marathon split. The Johnson Crane Marathon and Half Marathon also features a challenging climb to the 19km mark. The last 2 kilometres are an easy downhill. Walkers are also welcome and there is a 6 hour cut off time to accommodate them. This Johnson Crane marathon and half maraton has been consistently ranked as a well organised and presented event. Marathon runners get a long sleeved T shirt and half marathon entrants a short sleeved T shirt. The starting point for these marathons is at Old Benonians Sport Club in Benoni.
