Events in Gauteng – November 2010

Momentum 94.7 Cycle Challenge: This event takes place on the 21st of November 2010 in Johannesburg. It’s 14th annual edition of the event and promises to be a great one. The Momentum 94.7 Cycle Challenge has been voted ‘Road Race of the Year’ for the last 3 years. The event was started by Midrand Country Cyclists in 1997 with a field of just 5500 cyclists. The event has become the biggest cycling race in Gauteng over the years though. Last year 27,082 cyclists took to the roads. This year the cyclists taking part in it is expected to be close to 30,000. This year’s will not be the usual 94.7 km scenic route. Organisers are introducing a new 5.6 km urban loop route into the race, which will take cyclists through the heart of the Johannesburg CBD. The race will finish at the Waterfall Country Estate, just off Maxwell Drive. The race will be as demanding as ever. The Momentum 94.7 Cycle Challenge supports the Homeless Talk Crèche in Joubert Park. The centre provides daycare for the children of Homeless Talk vendors, an aim to keep the children off the streets of Johannesburg while their parents are earning a living.
