Events in Gauteng – September 2011

Hospice Spinnathon 2011: This event takes place on the 17th of September 2011 in the Piazza at Melrose Arch in Johannesburg. This year, Hospice is partnering with The Smile Foundation to bring you a bigger and better event. There will be 120 spinning bikes available each hour and fully qualified spinning instructors will host each hour. All proceeds from the Hospice Spinnathon will go to the Hospice Association of the Witwatersrand. The association provides nursing care and pain management for the terminally ill and emotional support for their families. Book your place at for one hour or for the full 8 hours that the event will run. The cost per hour is R120. For each hour that you book, you will receive a free entry in the lucky draw to win a spinning bike. There will also be hourly spot prizes and special bikes are available for children to spin and join in the fun. Each entrant will receive a goodie bag as a gift and there will be live entertainment and the chance to meet a South African sports celebrity. For more information phone 083 712 0771 or 0861 1467 7423.

CSIR Half Marathon and 10km: This event will take place in Brummeria in Pretoria on the 17th of September 2011. This race is a well balanced and challenging 2 lap route. The first 3 km kilometers are run through the CSIR grounds and provides a good test for even the fittest runner. The part of the course run through Brummeria is easy enough and shouldn’t pose a problem and the last bit of the race is run back inside the CSIR grounds – testing but the chance of spotting small game should take your mind off things! Walkers are welcome and there is a fun run. The race starts at the CSIR Conference Centre in Meyring Naude road. For more information phone Ken on 082 444 3955.
