Events in Kwazulu Natal – April 2011

The Bell’s Fort Nottingham Highland and Traditional Games: This event is held at Fort Nottingham in KZN on the 16th of April 2011. The event is to be held on the grounds of Fort Nottingham (8 km from the village) and will encompass festival events, exhibitors, food stalls, highland dancing and athletic games (typically found at a Scottish Gathering such as the Breamar Games). Its bound to generate interest and enthusiasm in the Midlands (and beyond) communities of Scottish ancestry and the general public who enjoy the unique activities found at Highland Gatherings and in so doing create an event that will be held at the Fort annually. Nottingham is close to the N3 highway (20 km) and a short drive from Pietermaritzburg and easily within a days drive from Durban. The surrounding village fields offer extensive safe parking for over 1000 motor vehicles and well signposted direction will guide the day visitor to the village. The surrounding Midlands area has over 400 bed and breakfast establishments and hotels for visitors to the region coming from far a field.

Dick King Half Marathon and 15km walk: This event is held on the 17th of April 2011. The Dick King Half Marathon starts  in the South Coast town of Amanzimtoti. The marathon is a moderate, well balanced out and back course with the first kilometer presenting a challenging steep climb followed by a gentle downhill to the 4km mark. From this point its undulating to the turn back mark. The race is run along part of the route taken by Dick King on his historic and legendary journey from Durban to Grahamstown.
