The following events are coming up in Kwazulu Natal in May / June 2010:
The Royal Show – 28 May – 6 June 2010: This event is held at the Royal Agricultural Society of KZN Showground in Pietermaritzburg and attracts visitors from far and wide. The Royal Show was first held in 1851. The show is fondly referred to as “The Royal” and has approximately 13 different exhibition halls and 350 trade stands. Lots of entertainment is ongoing during the Royal Show to keep the whole family busy, including concerts, fireworks displays, vintage tractor displays and show-jumping. This will keep you busy for hours. The show opens at 9 AM daily. Entrance will be R35 for adults, R20 for Pensioners, R20 for kids under 12 and Free for pre-school children. On Wednesday the 2nd of June entrance is R20 for everyone, and on Sunday the 6th of June entrance is R40 for everyone. Parking is available at the showground at R15 per vehicle. The Comrades Marathon – 30 May 2010: The Comrades is known as the world’s greatest ultra-marathon. This 90 km marathon is a South African institution. It’s internationally recognized for the challenge it poses and the camaraderie it fosters among its thousands of participants. The Comrades was first run in 1921 and has been held every year except 1941 – 1945 (when it was stopped for duration of the 2nd World War). The race is run between Pietermaritzburg (the capital of Kwazulu Natal province) and Durban. The race alternates yearly between the up run from Durban and the down run from Pietermaritzburg. This year it’s the turn of the down run. The race starts at 05h30 at Pietermaritzburg town hall and ends at 17h30 at Sahara Stadium, Kingsmead in Durban.
