Events in KZN – February / March 2011

Old Mutual Battlefields 4-in-1: This historic race has a well-balanced course with a few hills, all in the right places. The Old Mutual Battlefields 4-in-1 will be held on the 5th of February 2011. Runners will run out of the town and onto the Memel Road to Ingogo and back. The first section is run on tar roads and incorporates a climb of about 7 km. There is some respite though. The following 10 kilometres are flat and the running is easy and relaxed. At this stage runners can truly enjoy the mountains, the fresh air and the race’s natural surroundings. At the 17 km marker the route turns onto a sand road for about 8 km. Along this stretch lies the silent gravesites of the fallen heroes of the Schuinshoogte battle. This is a good spot to pause and reflect. Before the turning point at Ingogo, there is a monster of a hill which goes on for a punishing 2 kilometres. This is followed by a steep downhill stretch to the Ingogo River where runners steel themselves for the return journey to Newcastle. All other races are on the same route with different turning points. For more information about this event contact Andre on 034 3125781. The date for the event still have to be confirmed.
