Youth Music Festival: This event is held on the 13th of August 2011 at the Foreshore in Cape Town. The Youth Music Festival is presented by Artscape and the Cape Philharmonic Orchestra. The 40th edition of this festival takes place at 19h30 in the evening. 15 exceptionally talented young singers and classical musicians will perform with the Cape Philharmonic Orchestra. This festival is gives these talented youngsters the opportunity to perform on a professional stage and aids them in launching their careers. The participants are chosen from over 50 youths and are ages between 12 and 26 years. Tickets cost R60 for adults and R30 for pensioners and students. Tickets can be booked via Computicket. McCarthy Toyota Paarlberg Half Marathon: This event is held on the 13th of August 2011. A circular route with the first 8 kilometers heading through Paarl from South to North, the next 10 km are run on gravel, a steep climb makes up the first 3 km with a recovery stretch of about 1 km to get your breath back. A grueling 2 km bit follows your kilometer of rest and this will take you to the highest point of the race. The next 4 km are on a steep downhill and the last 3 km are a great reward for hard work done. The race is run mainly on tarred roads. The course heads through vineyards and you are treated to heavenly views of the Paarl / Franschhoek Valley with its surrounding mountains and wine farms. This is one of the oldest races in South Africa and 2011 will see its 78th running. Walkers are welcome and there is a fun run too. For more information phone Sybrandt on 083 4446940.
