Events in the Western Cape – July / August 2010

Cape Town Book Fair: This event is hosted at the Cape Town International Convention Center (CTICC) from the 30th of July to the 2nd of August 2010. The Cape Town Book Fair was first staged in 2003. The event takes places under the authority of the Publishers Association of South Africa and in co-operation with the Frankfurter Buchmesse (the largest book fair in the world). The Cape Town Book Fair is the country’s main event for the promotion of books. Entry Fees are R60 per day for Adults and R25 per day for students and pensioners. Children under the age of 13 can enter for free. The Cape Town Book Fair will be open to visitors from 10 AM to 6 PM on the 31st of July and 1st of August and from 10 AM to 4 PM on Monday the 2nd of August. Hermanus Kalfiefees: This event is on in Hermanus from the 5th to the 9th of August 2010. The Hermanus Kalfiefees (“Calf Festival”) is held to celebrate the arrival of the Southern Right whales.A variety of productions and festivities are on that is suitable for all ages and tastes. It’s the 10th year that this festival is held in Hermanus. Various Afrikaans theatre productions (including 2 childrens productions) are scheduled during the 2010 Kalfiefees.
