Events in the Western Cape – March 2011

The Barleycorn Annual Music Festival: This annual festival will be held on Saturday the 5th of March 2011 at the Maynardville Open Air Theatre in Wynberg, Cape Town. This year’s stage will showcase some of the best talent Cape Town has to offer. Besides excellent local music there will also be food (including vegetarian) and drinks available at venue. Festival goers are also welcome to bring a picnic basket. Activities for kids include a jumping castle, face painting and more. Acts that will be perform at the Barleycorn Annual Music Festival this year include The Louise Day Band, The Jack Mantis Band, The Stremes, Mother City Mojo, Black South Easter, Meri Kenaz, The Derek Leisegang Band, Jasper Dick, Matthew Roux, The Bone Collectors and The Vans. The inaugural Festival was held in 1980. Tickets for Adults cost R60, tickets for members cost R50 and tickets for students / scholars cost R30. RAMFest: This event is on from 4-6 March 2011. The 5th annual edition of RAMFest will be held at the Nekkies Holiday Resort (near Worcester in the Western Cape). This year at RAMfest festival goers can expect much more than they could have ever dreamed of. Besides delivering the music that you all love, the festival will also be breaking into some new genres that they feel deserve showcasing. Additions to this year’s festival includes a bigger Dance stage, more and better camping as well as a couple of surprises. Fasten your seatbelts for the thrills that are about to jolt you like lightening. Alkaline Trio (from the USA) and Funeral for a Friend (from the UK) will be headlining the festival. Local artists like Ashtray Electric, Die Antwoord, Gazelle, Zebra & Giraffe, Desmond & The Tutu’s, Wrestlerish and various others will be performing at the festival. Facilities available at the event include food stalls, cash bars, merchandise stands, camping, swimming and ATM’s. Please note that the following will not be allowed into the event, glass, weapons, illegal substances, fires and pets. This is an over 16’s event, please no under 16’s.
