Events in the Western Cape – May / June 2010

The following events are coming up in the Western Cape:

Cape Town Big Band Jazz Festival – 27 to 29 May 2010: The festival was found in 1999 by the late Dennis Barr this festival. The Cape Town Big Band Jazz Festival is a community outreach program in support of music education in big band jazz for school and college students. The proceeds from the Cape Town Big Band Jazz festival go towards scholarships in a number of programs such as sponsorship of a music teacher at Manenberg High School for their Steelband Project and many other such programs. A number of musical instruments have also been donated to Athlone Music Academy, York Road Primary School and Eluxolweni Primary School (to name but a few). The Cape Town Big Band Jazz festival provides a platform for young musicians to showcase their talent. This encourages them to develop their musical talents further. Jazz Bands from Cape Town Schools as well as the Big Band from UCT will be performing over the 3 day festival which is held at the Baxter Concert Hall in Rondebosch. Outdoor, Sport and Adventure Exhibition – 4 June – 7 June 2010: This exhibition is held at the Cape Gate Shopping Center. All the players of the Outdoor, Adventure and Tourism industry participate in the Outdoor, Sport and Adventure Exhibition. The exhibition presents a comprehensive view of the outdoor adventure options that the masses have and that the industry has to offer. It also gives ample opportunity to the participants to showcase their products and benefits, and to interact with their intrinsic and captive audience. Shoppers can win prizes of up to R50,000 by completing entry forms which are available at the Cape Gate Shopping Centre. Prizes include Golf, Bicycle and Hiking-gear vouchers, Extreme sport, i.e. Skye Diving, Shark Cage Diving, Paragliding, Abseiling and Bungee Jumping vouchers as well as introduction courses to other sporting categories.
