Dragon Boat Festival Regatta: This event is held in Muizenberg on the 16th of October 2010. Dragon Boats have been around for over 2400 years. They originated in China. Dragon Boats were only introduced in South Africa in 1992. Companies and other Rotary clubs are being urged to take part in the Annual Dragon Boat Festival Regatta by the Cape of Good Hope Rotary Club. This event promises to be lots of fun. The Dragon Boat Festival Regatta takes place at the Zandvlein inland waterway. Each team is made up of 10 novice paddlers and an experienced helsman who steers the boat in the right direction, the paddling should happen in unison to the drum beat. 4 boats take place in each heat which will ensure that the final will have spectators on the edge of their seats. Cape Town International Kite Festival: This event is held in Muizenberg on the 23rd and 24th of October 2010. The them for this year’s Cape Town International Kite Festival is ‘Uplifting Mind and Body’. Its the 16th annual edition of the kite festival (which is proudly hosted by Cape Mental Health). The Cape Town International Kite Festival is the biggest of its kind on the African continent. The festival attracts more than 20,000 visitors each year. Some of the biggest names in kiting in South Africa and the world fly in to show off their magnificent kite creations. Kite-making, kite-flying, food stalls, kiddies rides, a full programme of entertainment and an eclectic craft market will be on offer. Ideal for the whole family. The festival will be open from 10:00 to 18:00 each day. It takes place on the lawns surrounding Zandvlei. Ample parking and easy access by train (False Bay or Muizenberg stations) will be available. Entrance is only R15 for adults and only R5 for children.
