Events in the Western Cape – September 2010

Swartland Show: This event is on from the 8th of September to the 11th of September 2010 in Morreesburg in the Western Cape. Experience the farming life at this annual award-winning event. The Swartland Show is the biggest agricultural show in the Western Cape. The show promises to be an educating and fun filled event for the whole family. 14 livestock championships will be hosted this year. This includes horses, sheep and cattle as well as numerous horse drawn carriage parades. The little ones can explore agricultural implements and join in the Cattle Expo where they can touch and learn more about farm animals. Homemade meals like potjiekos, pancakes and braaivleis will be available as well as crafter’s markets and agricultural machinery & livestock exhibitions. Morreesburg is just 100 km from Cape Town. Mountain Bike ChallengeStaalwater Mountain Bike Challenge: This event is held at the Caledon Casino, Hotel and Spa on the 11th of September 2010. The restorative powers of Caledon’s hot springs have been renowned for centuries. Mountain bikers can enjoy these mineral-rich waters after taking part in the new Staalwater event. There will be 3 route options and the event offers something for beginners to fit riders. Dirtopia always promises a fun day out – make sure you are at the lucky draw and entertainment at the casino afterwards. The Caledon Wildflower Show is also on the same weekend. The 60km route of the Staalwater Challenge is a mix of private farms and district dirt roads and is only available as a complete option on the day of the event.  The 30km option at the Staalwater Challenge takes riders through very scenic route with just over 550m of vertical elevation.  The 15km is a short-cut loop of the 30km and is flat – perfect for beginners, kids and families that just want to enjoy the beautiful area in Spring. Pre-entries close on Monday 6 September.
