Fasten your seatbelt and go back in time with Rush

Rush is an upcoming action film / bio pic / movie involving racing cars. The film is scheduled for release in September 2013 in the United States. Rush takes us back in time to the Formula 1 Grand Prix season in 1976 and recalls the rivalry between Niki Lauda (from Austria) and James Hunt (from Great Britain). The story starts after the near fatal crash involving Niki Lauda at the 1976 German Grand Prix at the Nürburgring. Lauda returns to the tournament a few weeks later to face his rival in their pursuit of the 1976 World Championship at Fuji in Japan.

Niki Lauda won the Formula 1 World Championship 3 times. He competed in 177 races from 1971-1979 and 1982-1985 for the March, BRM, Ferrari, Brabham and McLaren teams. He won 25 F1 Grand Prix races and started in the pole position 24 times. After he retired he started two airlines, ran the Jaguar Formula 1 team for two years and is currently lending his insight on German Television during Grand Prix weekends.

James Hunt won the Formula 1 Championship once and competed in 93 races from 1973-1979 for the Hesketh, McLaren and Wolf teams. He won 10 Formula 1 Grand Prix races and started in the pole position 14 times. After he retired he became a F1 race commentator at the BBC. James Hunt died of a heart attack in 1993.

The film is directed by veteran Hollywood director Ron Howard (who has directed films like The Da Vinci Code, A Beautiful Mind, Apollo 13 & Far and Away) and the screenplay was written by Peter Morgan. Rush was filmed at locations in Germany, Austria and Great Britain. The film makers used both F1 vintage cars and replicas in the film.

Rush will feature appearances by Chris Hemsworth (who you know better as Thor from the Avengers), Daniel Brühl (an established German actor who appeared in the 2009 film Inglorius Bastards), Olivia Wilde (who you may recognize from the television series House), Alexandra Maria Lara and Natalie Dormer (a British actress who you might recognize from The Tudors and Game of Thrones). The budget for the film is rumored to be around $38 million.

No release date has been set for this film in South Africa yet, but I suggest that you keep a close eye on the Nu Metro and Ster-Kinekor websites for updates. Rush looks like it’s going to be an action packed trip down memory lane.

If you’re an F1 enthusiast, you will enjoy this, fasten your seatbelt and check out the trailer for the film below if you don’t believe me.
