The 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil starts tomorrow!

Tomorrow, 12 June is the start of the FIFA World Cup 2014 in Brazil! The event will be hosted in Brazil and will be kicked off with an hour-long curtain raising ceremony with a display of fireworks, performances by renowned entertainers in a sensational musical theme. The event will be hosted at the Itaquera stadium, also called the Itaquera Arena or Corinthians stadium, as it is the home of the Corinthians, a popular Brazilian football team. The ceremony will commence at 20:00 South African time and will be followed by the first match of this FIFA World Cup between Brazil and Croatia at 22:00. Stilt walkers, acrobatic gymnasts, capoeira performers, and trampolinists will all participate in the ceremony to kick off the celebrations. This is the second time Brazil hosts the event, the previous time being in 1950. The event will run from 12 June to 13 July 2014. The closing ceremony will be hosted by various entertainers like Claudia Leitte, Jennifer Lopez, Pitbull and the Brazilian Olodum Band performing the official anthem of the 2014 World Cup, ‘We Are One’. There are 12 venues for the matches, of which seven are new and five were renovated:

This will be the first FIFA World Cup in which goal line technologies are allowed for the Finals matches. FIFA also approved the use of vanishing spray by the referees for the first time at a World Cup Finals. The water-based spray, which disappears within minutes of application, may be used to mark a ten-yard line for the defending team during a free kick and also draw where the ball is to be placed for a free-kick.
