Living in the Western Cape? Looking for something to do? Well, if you are a picnic lover, you should not miss the next full-moon picnic at the Taal Monument on Paarl Mountain (which is scheduled for Friday the 6th of January and Saturday the 7th January). Local as well as international visitors are invited to enjoy these picnics for the unbeaten sunset and night time views of the valley.
The moon will be 97.9% full on Friday evening, with moonrise at 17:43 and sunset at 20:01. On Saturday moonrise is at 18:34 and sunset is at 20:01. There will be guided tours of the Taal monument at 18:30 and 19:30 on both these days. The monument will be open until 22:00.
Visitors to the full-moon picnics are welcome to bring their own picnic baskets or they can order one from Volksmond Coffee Shop. You can contact them on 021 863 2800 or via e-mail at firstname.lastname@example.org). Volksmond will be open until 22:00 for coffee and light refreshments. Simonsvlei wines will also be on sale at cellar prices. Entrance costs R15 for adults, R10 for students and R5 for children. No booking is required. Visitors are reminded to bring torches and warm clothes. No dogs or fires will be allowed. Safe parking is available and access is controlled.
Also note that full-moon picnics are scheduled for Friday the 3rd of February and Saturday the 4th of February and the last picnic of the season is scheduled for Friday the 9th of March 2012. The monument’s operating hours will be extended until 20:00 for the summer season from October to March.
