The Secret Life of Walter Mitty is an upcoming comedy drama film starring Ben Stiller in the leading role. The film tells the story of Walter Mitty, an office worker who lives inside fantasy worlds where he lives a life full of adventure and romances his co-worker. Mitty sets off on a journey to fix things when both his jobs are threatened.
The film is based on the short story of the same title by James Thurber (which was first published in New Yorker Magazine in 1939). Besides starring in the leading role, Ben Stiller is also directing this film. The screenplay for the film is written by Steve Conrad (the same person who wrote the screenplay for 2006’s The Pursuit of Happiness). It’s the second time that the short story has been made into a movie, the first film version was released in 1947. The 2013 version of the film was shot at locations in Iceland and New York City.
The Secret Life of Walter Mitty will also feature appearances by Kristen Wiig (who recently lent her voice talents to Despicable Me 2), veteran Hollywood actor Sean Penn, Adam Scott, Kathryn Hahn, Shirley MacLaine, Patton oswald, Toshiko Onizawa, Joey Slotnick, Adrian Martinez, Finise Avery, Philip Odango and various others.
The film is scheduled for release on Christmas Day this year (the 25th of December 2013). No release date has been confirmed for South African audiences yet, but keep your eyes peeled on the Nu Metro and Ster-Kinekor websites. The film should be released around the same time or early in 2014.
