Get nuts with The Nut Job in 2014

Great news for fans of animated films. The Nut Job (a Canadian 3D animation film) is coming in 2014. This film plays off in Oakton (a fictional town) and tells the story of Surly (a mischievous squirrel) and his friend Buddy (a rat) who plan a nut-store heist of ludicrous proportions and  find themselves entangled in a complicated adventure. The film is brought to you by Toonbox Entertainment, Red Rover International and Gulfstream Pictures and is distributed by Open Road Studios.

The Nut Job is directed by Peter Lepeniotis (who worked as an animator on films like 2000’s Dinosaur & Fantasia 2000 and 1995’s Casper). He also co-wrote the screenplay for the film with Lorne Cameron (who was also wrote the screenplay for 2006’s Over the Hedge and the story for 1995’s First Knight). It’s not the first time that Surly the mischievous squirrel has appeared in an animated feature. He also appeared in an animated short in 2005 (which was directed by Lepeniotis).

The movie will feature the voice talents of Will Arnett (of Arrested Development fame), Katherine Heigl (of Knocked Up fame), Liam Neeson (who needs no introduction), Brendan Fraser (who also needs no introduction), Stephen Lang, Sarah Gadon, Maya Rudolph, Jeff Dunham (famed ventriloquist comedian) and various others.

The film is scheduled for release in the United States in January 2014. No release dates have been confirmed by Nu Metro or Ster-Kinekor for South African audiences yet. Judging by the trailer for the Nut Job below it looks like it’s going to be a nutty, hilarious and fun-filled ride. Don’t take my word for it though, make up your own mind

So, what do you think? Are you rushing off to your nearest cinema when this film is released or are you giving this one a skip? Leave a comment and let me know. Feedback is appreciated and welcome here.
