News houses were abuzz this morning with news that Google has overtaken Apple as the most valuable brand.
In a survey by global market research agency Millward Brown, it has come to light that Google’s brand value increased by 40% in a year to $158.84 billion.
The reasons for this is that Google has been extremely innovative this year with “Google Glass, investments in artificial intelligence and a range of partnerships,” said Benoit Tranzer, the Head of Millward Brown France.
While Google has grown significantly, Apple lost 20% of their brand awareness during the year after dominating the top spot for three years.
The Top 10 slots were dominated by US firms with IBM in third place and Microsoft in fourth place. McDonalds was ranked fifth and Coca-Cola sixth.
Brand value is calculated on the basis of the firms’ financial performance and their standing among consumers.
