Just one more day to go to one of South Africa’s most anticipated horse racing, fashion and entertainment events. Taking place at the Greyville Racecourse in Durban, this event is expected to see about 55 000 people at the racecourse for the Grade 1 horse race worth R3, 5 million.
It can be anyone’s win, but when those 16 gates open with a rush of galloping horses racing for the finish line, it is up to every jockey, trainer, owner and breeder’s training efforts and talent and a will to win that will determine who will walk away with the coveted first price.
This event will engulf the entire country as people watch from the confines of the racecourse in Durban or on television from their homes. This is an event you do not want to miss out on. But as always, nothing beats being surrounded by the spirit of the Durban July; to be part of the crowd and line track, or to relax in one of the many restaurants surrounding the racecourse.
What are the festivities of the day?
There will be twelve races, with race seven being the biggest race of all at a distance of 2200m, for R 3, 5 million, at 16:20 p.m. tomorrow afternoon at the Vodacom Durban July.
The day will begin with a Fashion on Track at 9:30 a.m., where judges will be scouting for the finalist. This is where most of our South African celebrities make the ‘worst dress’ list, but do not blame them, blame the designers. The Fashion of the Durban July is the most extravagant of the day’s events, bringing colour and beauty to the day. There will be more fashion as the day progresses.
On the entertainment side, there will be entertainment taking place between races live from the Action Stage. Gagasi FM partnered with Airey Scott to bring you the Jack Daniel’s Boomtown for this year’s Vodacom Durban July.
Gagasi FM will broadcast live from the Greyville Racecourse, and there will be performances by Black Coffee, AKA & Da Les, Khuli Chana, Zakes Bantwini, Mi Casa, Dreamteam, Reason, DJ Clock, Uhuru and Teargas front man KO amongst many others.
The day will be filled with so much racing, entertainment and fashion, it is the place you want to be at tomorrow 9:30 a.m. till late in the evening. There will be ‘after’ parties at various marques, but none officially released by Vodacom Durban July.
If you want to be part of all the glamour, join the hype on social media sites. If you are going to be there, take lots and lots of pictures to ‘capture this great moment’ and be sure to share it with us. If you not going to be at the event, you can still join in the fun as Vodacom has released a free app for download for Android, iOS and Windows phones, and you can be kept up-to-date with fashion and celebrity news, betting and details of the venue, and guides and tips on placing bets for the day.
