More Events in the Western Cape – July 2010

The Cape Town International Ballet Competition: This event takes place at Artscape Opera House in Cape Town from the 12th to 17th of July 2010. The Cape Town International Ballet Competition will feature talented dancers from South Africa, Singapore, China, United Kingdom, Cuba and South Korea. The event was formerly known as the South African International Ballet Competition. Local and foreign dance agencies have the opportunity to find new and existing talent. It’s one of the flagship events on the dance events calendar in South Africa. The  competition categories in ballet and contemporary, are divided into a Junior/Amateur Division (15-18  years) and a Senior/Professional Division (19- 28 years). Franschoek Bastille Festival: South Africa’s Gourmet capital will be hosting this event on the 17th and 18th of July 2010. Franschoek will celebrate its centuries-old French Huguenot heritage with a wonderful feast of food, wine and entertainment. The Franschoek Bastille festival will be featuring the usual, popular traditions and activities, including boules, the Franschhoek minstrel parade, kiddies soccer, a barrel-rolling contest and a fun run. The event will also feature a farmers’ market, craft market stalls, musicians and children’s activities. For those wanting to appreciate French heritage in comfort the Screening Room at Le Quartier Français will be screening French movies throughout the weekend. The town’s restaurants will be offering special menus exclusively prepared for this annual Festival.
