Mother’s Day is a celebration honouring mothers, motherhood and anything else Mom-related. The day is celebrated around the world on various days. In South Africa, Mother’s Day is celebrated on the second Sunday of May annually.
Mother’s Day originated in the United States in the early 20th Century. In 1908, Anna Jarvis held a memorial for her mother. She then began a campaign to make the day a national holiday in the United States and was successful in 1914. Jarvis’ holiday was adopted by many other countries around the world.
Mothers around the world usually receive a homemade card and special gift. In addition, Mom is supposed to relax on Mother’s Day. Dad and kids will usually cook Sunday lunch and do the dishes.
