Great news for science fiction fans! There is a new Star Trek movie coming in 2013! The new film will be entitled Star Trek: Into Darkness and is expected to be released in the United States in May 2013 and in South Africa in July 2013.
Star Trek: Into Darkness is a science fiction / action film that tells the story of the crew of the Enterprise finding an unstoppable force of terror from within their own organization. Captain Kirk (who is played by Chris Pine) leads a manhunt into a war-zone world to capture a one man weapon of mass destruction.
Star Trek: Into Darkness is directed by J.J. Abrams (who also directed the previous Star Trek film and has co-created television shows like Fringe, Alias and Lost). The screenplay for the movie is written by Alex Kurtzman, Damon Lindelof and Roberto Orci.
The new Star Trek movie will feature appearances by Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Zoe Saldana (who gained fame for her appearance in Avatar), Karl Urban, Anton Yelchin, John Cho, Simon Pegg (who has gained fame for films like Hot Fuzz) and Benedict Cumberbatch. Most of these actors appeared in the previous Star Trek film (which was released in 2009). The budget for the upcoming film is estimated at $185 million.
The Star Trek franchise was created by Gene Roddenberry. The new Star Trek movie is the twelfth film from the franchise. The original Star Trek TV series aired in 1966. Six Star Trek TV series featuring 726 episodes have aired over the years. The first Star Trek film was released in 1979.
There is no doubt in my mind that Star Trek: Into Darkness is definitely one of the most anticipated films of 2013. The makers of the film released the first teaser trailer for the film today, you can view it below:
