Remember the 1980’s and 1990’s? Remember Princess Diana? Great news for fans of the British Royal Family and Princess Diana is that a biopic about the last two years of her life and her relationships with Hasnat Khan and Dodi Al-Fayed is coming soon. The film is entitled ‘Diana”. To date the British royal family have not made any official statement or comment about this upcoming film.
The role of Princess Diana is portrayed by Noami Watts (famous for her roles in films like The Ring, King Kong and The Impossible), the role of Hasnat Khan is portrayed by Naveen Andrews (famed for his role as Sayid in the television series Lost) and the role of Dodi Al-Fayed is portrayed by Cas Anvar (an actor who has appeared in various TV shows and voiced characters on a few video games). ‘Diana’ also features appearances by Douglas Hodge, Geraldine James, Charles Edwards, Daniel Pirrie, Juliet Stevenson, Jonathan Kerrigan, Laurence Belcher, Harry Holland and various other actors.
‘Diana’ is directed by German born director Oliver Hirschbiegel (who also directed 2007’s The Invasion and 2004’s Downfall). The film’s screenplay was writted by Stephen Jeffeys (who also wrote the screenplay for the 2004’s The Libertine). The world premiere of the film is in London on the 5th of September 2013. No words from Nu Metro or Ster-Kinekor cinemas about a South African release date yet.
Prince Charles and her had a fairy tale wedding in 1981, but their marriage sadly ended in divorce in August 1996 and she died in a tragic car accident in Paris in 1997. When she was the Princess of Wales she fulfilled her British Royal duties and did a lot of charity work. The British people loved her so much, she became known as “The People’s Princess”. One of the initiatives she lend her support to was an international campaign to ban landmines – the campaign went on to win the Nobel Peace Prize after her death in 1997.
It will be interesting to see how the film makers are going to tell us her story. Judging by the trailer below it might just be one of the better films to be released in 2013.
