Important safety tip for buying and selling number 5

buying_and_selling_safety_tipsHere is another safety tip for buying and selling. If you’re the buyer or the seller you should find this tip useful. In our previous safety tip for buying and selling we’ve covered the topic of a recent scam that is doing the rounds where you basically get overpaid and then lose out on more than what you were paid for (pardon the pun).  In this safety tip for buying and selling we will be covering the aspect of security and privacy on social media. Not just any social media channel, but one that we have all most likely have a profile on. Yes, that’s right, we’re talking about Facebook.

Privacy on Facebook

When posting on our Junk Mail Facebook wall or page as a lot of people do, keep in mind your privacy. Don’t share too much information. Do not share any information that you would not do on any classified website. At the end of the day you do not know who is looking at that information as this is all open to the public. Junk Mail’s Facebook wall is always open to view for anyone, even those who do not have a Facebook profile. Yes, they can comment (if they have a profile) on whatever you’ve shared on our wall too. But there is no need to worry. Luckily we do keep an eye on our Facebook wall and page in order to moderate and protect our followers, but we love to chat and help too, so be sure to leave comments on our Facebook posts if you’d like. Keep in mind that we have other channels too were we love to chat and help. Like our Junk Mail Twitter account. You are more than welcome to chat to us on Twitter, even if it is in 140 characters or less.

Your profile privacy

Facebooks-Privacy-tips-for-buying-and-sellingNow – Even if you share the bare minimum of information when posting on our Junk Mail Facebook wall or page, the fact that you’ve either shared, liked or commented on something, means that anyone can now view your profile by simply clicking on your name. This is why it is so important for you to have your privacy settings properly set up within your Facebook profile. Certain information you have no control over and Facebook makes it public by default. But there is a whole lot of information that you can decide on whether to make available to the public, your friends and even specific friends. Be sure you know exactly who can see what type of information is on your Facebook profile because you never know who is watching, and no – we’re not talking about the disgruntled ex that keeps stalking you on Facebook, but random people whom you’ve most likely never even met.

Digital has a very long life span

Here is another aspect of socializing on Facebook you need to keep in mind. What happens on Facebook – stays on Facebook forever. Yes, that’s right. The moment you post anything on Facebook. it will most likely still be seen today if you’re willing to scroll down your timeline for long enough.  So be sure you know what type of information you might have posted a year, or even five years back. If you don’t, you might just find  a picture of yourself on one of these Facebook memes you see everywhere.
