The 2011 ICC Cricket World Cup is around the corner

The 2011 ICC Cricket World Cup will be hosted by 3 South Asian test cricket playing countries: India, Sri Lanka & Bangladesh. The tournament will use cricket’s One Day International format. Cricket teams from 14 countries are scheduled to compete in the tournament this year. The tournament is scheduled to start on the 19th of February (1 month from now) and ends on the 2nd of April.

Matches in the 2011 ICC Cricket World Cup will be played in 13 different cities around the Sub Continent:

  • Kolkata, New Delhi, Ahmedabad, Chennai, Mumbai, Mohali, Nagpur and Bangalore in India.
  • Colombo, Hambantota and Kandy in Sri Lanka
  • Chittagong and Dhaka in Bangladesh

The following countries will be competing in the 2011 ICC Cricket World Cup:

South Africa, Zimbabwe, Kenya, Canada, West Indies, Bangladesh, India, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Australia, New Zealand, England, Ireland, The Netherlands.

Teams are split into 2 groups of 7. The top 4 of each group will advance to the 2nd round of the competition. 4 teams will advance to the semi-final stage of the competition from the 2nd round and 2 teams will eventually play in the Final match of the tournament. There will be no 3rd / 4th play-off match.

Graeme Smith (Captain), Hashim Amla, Johan Botha, AB de Villiers, JP Duminy, Faf du Plessis, Colin Ingram, Jacques Kallis, Morne Morkel, Wayne Parnell, Robbin Peterson, Dale Steyn, Imran Tahir, Lonwabo Tsotsobe, Morne van Wyk (wicket keeper).
