So it’s finally arrived and for those who aren’t yet aware of it, Winter is here, bringing with it cold weather and a desire to stay indoors, huddled under blankets playing Playstation. If you don’t yet have a Playstation, be sure to look on Junk Mail for a Playstation for sale. To keep you company, while you spend the next few months hibernating in the safety of your warm house, I have prepared a quick list of the best Playstation games to play this Winter. They should provide you with enough entertainment to last you for the next few months and, if you do it properly, you can still play them in Summer, even though I’m sure you’d rather be outside.
Hopefully, all the games are to your liking, but if they’re not, don’t worry. There are so many games planned for this year that you’ll be inundated with aliens that need killing in no time at all. The games I’ve chosen are simply the ones that I think most would enjoy. They are:
1. EA Sports World Cup 2014
Seeing as this year is a World Cup year, I felt it necessary to add EA Sports new game to the list. If you were dreaming of visiting Brazil but lacked the funds to get there, the new World Cup game will provide you with a pretty decent alternative. Granted, you might not be able to sun yourself on the sandy beaches of Rio de Janeiro before walking to watch your team, but you will be able to play the entire tournament and each game that goes with it. The graphics and gameplay are very similar to the new FIFA 14, but this is in no way a bad thing. I promise, if you’re a lover of Football, the realistic gameplay and graphics created by EA Sports will offer you all you need to live the world’s biggest sporting event.
2. Wolfenstein: The New Order
If your idea of a good ol’ time is killing Nazi’s, and nothing warms you up more than running around with massive guns, then Wolfenstein is the game for you. The new version brings back an old character, that of William “B.J.” Blazkowicz, who has just returned from an insane asylum and is now looking to get back to his favourite pastime. As is to be expected, Bethesda has created one of the most graphically astounding games of the year and if you’re looking to forget about the Winter blues, running around a Nazi controlled city in the 60’s will help you do it.
3. Call of Duty: Ghosts
The Call of Duty franchise is one that I’m sure all gamers are more than familiar with and the latest instalment, Ghosts, is panning out to be massive. It has already outsold many competitors for the first quarter of 2014 and it looks to be in with a fighting chance for game of the year. If you want to wile away the winter hours crawling around in the mud and preventing the fall of the US, you can do so with the game. The game is a third person shooter with an array of modern weapons and good old fashioned gameplay. The graphics are phenomenal and the sound is brilliant. It’s everything you could ever need to ward off the cold weather. My only problem with the game, being the length. It’s not what you would call a long one.
4. Grand Theft Auto 5
Even though this game has been out for quite a while, it seems it’s still outselling other, newer competitors. Such is the brilliance of the GTA franchise, that hordes of people happily camp out in front of stores waiting for its release. The brilliance of this game is the story and the gameplay, and even if you’re not completing the various missions, you’ll spend many happy hours running around the sunny metropolis of Los Santos causing mayhem and getting up to no good. It’s one of the few games that will keep you occupied for many hours and if you’re going to be spending so much time indoors, it’ll be best spent in the company of gun-toting psychos and criminals.
5. Assassins Creed: Black Flag
Just because it’s Winter in South Africa, doesn’t mean you can’t run around the Old Spanish Main, causing trouble, sailing boats, drinking rum and becoming the baddest dude in the history of the Caribbean. Assassins Creed: Black Flag follows the exploits of Captain Edward Kenway, a Pirate and Assassin in search of the fabled “Observatory”. This is without a doubt, one of the best additions to the already impressive Assassins Creed Franchise with more freedom in the gameplay, the ability to sail the seven seas and some of the most exciting fight sequences ever. This really is the best way to spend your time this Winter, and if you are planning on going into hibernation, I would highly recommend you do it in the company of Pirates, thieves and the roaring seas.
