Valentines day has come a little early this year thanks to the Greyton Rose Fair Festival. The Greyton Rose Fair is held in the small town of Greyton in the Western Cape on the 28th and 29th of October 2011 (this coming weekend). This annual event will be held for the 20th year in a row this year and showcases the beauty and tranquility of this fairy-like village in Spring.
The theme of this year’s festival is “Falling in love with Greyton – the village of romance”. The town will be transformed into a stage for lovers, with floral (roses, mostly) exhibitions at various venues. Highlights of the Greyton Rose Fair include visits to some the town’s most beautiful rose gardens, an arts and crafts market, art exhibitions, various concerts, a fashion show, sports activities and various activities for children.
The Rose Competition will take place on Friday. People are welcome to enter their garden rose blooms into the competition. The judges will decide on the winners later that day and the prize giving will take place that evening. The Art Hop will be open from 5 PM – 8 PM on the Friday, showcasing the works of Greyton’s artists.
If you only plan to arrive on Saturday morning, there’s still plenty in store for you to see. The Rose Show will open at 9 AM and will be open till 4 PM. The Rose Show will also be open on Sunday from 10 AM to 2 PM. This must-see display of vibrant colour and seasonal buds. So get down to the Dutch Reformed Church Hall and the entrance for adults is only R10 while children can get in for free. For more information phone 028 2549564
