What the hell is the Harlem Shake

So everyone has been shaking the Harlem lately. But for many, only one question comes to mind: What the hell is the Harlem Shake?

Harlem Shake is one of the biggest memes at the moment. A simple video that went viral and now everyone is hopping on the bandwagon. But I am still not explaining what the Harlem Shake is, right?


Now that you know what a meme is, the Harlem Shake is just another meme on the internet but in the form of a video. It usually consists of various groups of people but starts off with one person dancing to the song “Harlem Shake”, recorded by American DJ Baauer, while everyone else is not noticing. This lasts about 15 seconds and when the base drops everyone just joins in and does their random upper body movements with random objects.

There are two versions of the Harlem Shake so don’t confuse them with each other. The original Harlem Shake dates back to a dance introduce in the early 1980’s by a Harlem resident. The dance was initially referred to as the “albee” (the resident’s name was Al B) but the later became known as the…
