Who Will Win the 2011 Rugby World Cup?

The 2011 IRB Rugby World Cup kicks off on the 9th of September (this week Friday). It will be the 7th edition of this tournament which sees teams from around the world competing for the greatest trophy in rugby. The full 2011 IRB Rugby World Cup Schedule was posted a few months ago on the Junk Mail blog, feel free to check it out.

For those of you who might have been living under a rock the last few years, South Africa are the current IRB Rugby World Cup champions. The Springboks won the trophy at the 2007 IRB Rugby World Cup in France (under the leadership of then Springbok coach Jake White). White retired from his post after the previous tournament. Since then Pieter De Villiers has been the South African Rugby Coach.

The Springboks did not perform that well in the 2011 Tri Nations. Australia might have won the tournament, but the Springboks did sneak in a confidence boasting victory against New Zealand at Nelson Bay Stadium in Port Elizabeth before the end of the tournament. Both critics and fans alike agree that this was majorly important for the Springboks before the 2011 IRB Rugby World.

In case you missed it, the Junk Mail blog did feature a post listing the 2011 IRB Rugby World Cup Springbok Squad. The following 20 teams will be competing in the year’s tournament: Argentina, Australia, Canada, Fiji, Georgia, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Namibia, New Zealand, Romania, Russia, Samoa, Scotland, South Africa, Tonga, USA and Wales.

The Springboks will be doing their best to defend their 2007 title. Do you think they can do it for a 2nd time in a row? Or do you think the William Web Ellis Trophy will go to a team from another country? Can the Green and Gold take the Gold?
