The next Microsoft Operating System, Windows 10, has been announced in San Francisco, California.

What was expected to be called the Windows 9, Windows 10 will soon be launched and operating on all Microsoft devices, whether it’s a PC, laptop, tablet or a smartphone.

Why skip Windows 9 and go straight to Windows 10? Terry Myerson, head of Windows, explained that the reason for this is that the new OS was built from the ‘ground up’ and that it will not just be the next OS.

Expected new features of Windows 10

Here are some of the features of the new Operating System that was leaked recently:

  1. A new start menu
  2. Multi-desktop support
  3. Live-tiled start screen

  5. Change the size of the menu
  6. Universal search from the start menu
  7. New windowing and task management features
  8. Run “Modern UI Style Applications” from the start menu

The official launch is expected in April 2015 and users with Windows 8 are rumoured to upgrade free to Windows 10.
