Wreck-It Ralph Coming in 2013!

Just when you thought that there could not be more awesome animated films on the way in 2013, another film shows up on the “Coming Soon” list. Wreck-It Ralph is brought to you by Walt Disney studios and is set to be released in November 2012 in the United States and should only reach South African shores in early 2013.

Wreck-It Ralph tells the story of a bad-guy character in a classic video game who has a longing to be a hero, but brings trouble to his entire arcade after sneaking into a new first-person shooter game and unleashing a deadly enemy. I am 35 years old and it might sound a bit childish, but this all sounds very interesting to me and I’m really looking forward to this film.

The film will feature the voice talents of John C. Reilly, Jack McBrayer, Jane Lynch, Sarah Silverman, Ed O’Neill, Alan Tudyk, Dennis Haysbert and various others. Wreck-It Ralph will feature appearances of some of the most legendary characters in video game history. The film will feature characters from classic video games like Mortal Kombat, Street Fighter, Pac-Man, Sonic the Hedgehog, Super Mario Bros., Frogger and Paperboy.

The budget for Wreck-It Ralph is rumored to be $150 million. Rumor has it, that unlike most animated films, the principal actors regularly recorded audio sessions together in the same room, a situation which led to a lot of improvising from them. If you ask me, improvising is a good thing when it comes to animated films.

The film is directed by Rich Moore (who has directed numerous episodes of television’s The Simpsons, Futurama and Drawn Together) and is written by Jennifer Lee and Phil Johnston.  No release  date has been specified for South African theaters yet.
