The Perils of Owning an Italian Car

italian-cars-for-saleWhen you’re browsing the web, looking for Cars for Sale, I’m sure you would have come across a page or two advertising an Italian car. The cars in question are those including, but not limited to: Ferrari, Lamborghini, Maserati, Lancia and the more obvious and obtainable ones, including the likes of Alfa’s and Fiat’s.

Italian cars are among the most beautiful in the world and millions of people have been fawning over them for decades. Unfortunately, and this is especially prominent in the older cars, they do tend to break down. A lot. Jeremy Clarkson summed Italian cars up perfectly in a post about Alfa. He said: “Alfa builds a car to be as good as a car can be… briefly”.

This, to a certain degree, describes the entire Italian Automotive Industry. They make cars that look good, in fact they’re gorgeous and sound brilliant as well, and, if they were designed properly, would be engineering masterpieces. However, they’re just not. But it doesn’t really matter. Not when, for the tiniest of moments, all is well with your car. When you’re driving down the perfect road, the car is working, the sun is out and for the briefest of moments, absolutely nothing could, can be, or will ever be as good. For the briefest of moments, the world is alive with the sound of pure, unadulterated joy.

Unfortunately, there will be a time when the car breaks down. There will be a moment when you need the car to work and it won’t, when you’re relying on it to get you somewhere important and it won’t. You’ll end up on the side of the road, wallowing in a cloud of the prettiest looking smoke, wondering what happened to your life and the dreams you had about owning your little Italian car.

It won’t matter though, by that time, the obsession you have with the car will be at fever pitch. You’ll absolutely love every single moment you spend with your car. You’ll develop a relationship with it. It will take over your life. You’ll spend hours and hours simply staring at it, applying it with lavish amounts of care and attention in the hopes that it will work; even when you know it just won’t.

Owning an Italian car is in no way a sensible thing, but then again, who cares. When a car looks and sounds that good, it’s impossible to worry about constantly breaking down. It can only be described as a love affair, it will make no sense whatsoever, there might be better options out there, but it won’t matter because you love the car and everybody will always be wrong, not matter what.

So if you’re in the market for a new car, I urge you to buy an Italian one. They will make all your dreams come true and your worst nightmare a reality. They will provide you with endless amounts of joy and even more heartache. But it won’t matter, I promise you, you’ll love every second of it.

So don’t waste any time thinking about it. Visit Junk Mail where you’ll find a selection of cars for sale in Johannesburg. Have a look at the cars for sale section and find yourself an Italian car.
