Brace yourself for snail racing action in Turbo

TurboLooking for some fast paced animated action? Well, Turbo might just be the movie you’ve been waiting for. The film has already been released in the United States and will hit the South African cinema circuit in early September 2013 (according to Ster-Kinekor).

Turbo tells the story of Theo, an ordinary garden snail who has a dream of one day winning the Indy 500. A freak accident gives him the ability to move at a  fast speed. Theo gets discovered by a fast food worker and a crew of racing snails who share his crazy dream and Turbo is born.

Turbo sounds like an ideal film for young and old motoring and racing car enthusiasts and features the voice talents of Ryan Reynolds (Turbo), Paul Giamatti (Chet), Michael Peña (Tito), Snoop Dogg (Smoove Move), Maya Rudolph (Burn), Michelle Rodriguez (Paz), Samuel L. Jackson (Whiplash), Bill Hader (Guy Gagné), Ken Jeong (Kim Ly) and various others. The film was made on a $135 million budget and has already earned $55 million at the US box office alone since it was released on the 17th of July 2013.

The film is directed by first time full length animation film director David Soren. Soren has voiced characters Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa and Shark Tale and was a storyboard artist for 2001’s Shrek and 2006’s Over the Hedge.

Soren was also part of the Arts Department in 2000 for The Road to El Dorado and Chicken Run. Soren also co-wrote the screenplay for Turbo with Robert D. Siegel and Darren Lemke.
