Beware of the newest scam!

We have received many complaints in the past few days with Junk Mail users complaining about a new scam doing the rounds. We have measures in place to deal with this and would like to warn Junk Mailers.

Advertisers on Classifieds websites receive an e-mail response to their ad with a link. As soon as the advertiser clicks on that link, they are taken to a page not hosted by Junk Mail stating that they’ve won a prize. They are asked for their e-mail address and telephone number in order to ‘qualify’ them for their prize. Do not click on this link and do not provide your details, this is a subscription service and not a competition.

Here is what these responses look like:

Junk Mail will only promote competitions via the Junk Mail Blog, Facebook, Google+ and Twitter. Also, if we do have a competition on, the link will not click to a website not hosted by Junk Mail with no Junk Mail branding. They are trying to copy our logo, as can be seen from the screenshot above, so please be very vigilant!

Please also have a look at other types of scams doing the rounds and be sure to notify us and forward any such e-mails to moderation@junkmail.co.za.

Remember to always advertise safely!
