Much of South Africa is currently in the grip of yet another cold front. While we are warmly bundled up in our homes and offices, it is easy to forget those who are not as fortunate as ourselves. The Western Cape is no stranger to storms, floods, gale force winds or fires. It is often those who live in abject poverty that are the hardest hit by these catastrophes.
Cape Town has been drenched in torrential rains. Several floods have been reported since the beginning of the storm season; causing traffic accidents, damage to roads and infrastructure, mudslides and the destruction of thousands of homes. Heavy downpours hit again this past weekend as well as on Monday (14 June). The informal settlements of the Cape Flats have been particularly hard hit. More stormy weather and cold fronts are expected. CapeAds is calling on the public for assistance. Larger donations from organizations and businesses are also welcome. Please help by donating any of the following:
- Non-perishable foods
- Blankets
- Warm Clothing
- Money
- Your time (volunteer)
The City Of Cape Town welcomes contributions towards disaster relief, but advises the public to donate only through trusted NGO Partners. Do not give funds directly to the camps. The City of Cape Town and the Provincial Government of the Western Cape approves the following NGOs:
