Samsung Galaxy S3 Mini Unveiled

The smartphone market is a very competitive one. Electronics giant Samsung introduced the Samsung Galaxy S3 Mini (which could be considered as the little brother of the Samsung Galaxy S3) earlier today.

By now many of you reading this post are familiar with the Samsung Galaxy S3.  Many tech gurus and journalist consider this to main competitor for the recently released Apple iPhone 5. 2012 has certainly been the year of the war between Samsung and Apple smartphones in the global mobile phone market and if you ask me, the introduction of the Samsung Galaxy S3 Mini is just another chapter in it. Samsung and Apple are currently involved in a bitter legal battle spread over 10 different countries over alleged patent infringements.

Check out the technical statistics of the Samsung Galaxy S3 Mini below:

  • The phone has a four inch HD touch screen (smaller than the 4.8 inch screen of the Galaxy S3). The screen has a resolution of 800 x 480 pixels (compared to the 1280 x720 pixels of the Galaxy S3) and is the same size as the screen of the Apple iPhone 5.
  • The Samsung Galaxy S3 Mini has 5 megapixel camera (compared to the 8 megapixel Galaxy S3).
  • The phone has a slower 1 GHZ processor than the Galaxy S3 (which has a 1.5 GHz processor).

Some analysts have said that this mobile phone isn’t really a competitor for the Apple iPhone 5 and is comparable to the 2009 version of the Apple iPhone 3Gs. The Samsung Galaxy s3 Mini is not be able to connect to 4G networks – another reason why the phone won’t be a major player in the world smartphone market.

The Samsung Galaxy S3 Mini has some of the same cool features as the Galaxy S3:

  • It’s also powered by the latest version of Android Jelly Bean
  • The phone has the same S Voice language recognition software.
  • It also has Smart Stay functionality (which keeps the screen lit as long as you are looking at it).
  • It also features Direct Call (a function which enables users to automatically dial a call by lifting the phone to their ear when reading a text message from a friend)
  • And it also uses S Beam (which allows users to share music files between Galaxy S III series phones and Galaxy Note II devices by tapping the phones together).

No retail price has been announced for the Samsung Galaxy S3 Mini, but I’m pretty sure that it will be less pricey when its finally made available in stores in South Africa.
